Awards

In keeping with our mission to support access to healthcare. The Cardinal Health Foundation sponsors the ASHP Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety and the Foster G. McGaw Prize.

ASHP Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety

This award recognizes a pharmacist-led, multidisciplinary team for significant institution-wide improvements relating to medication use. The award is administered by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Research and Education Foundation, and is sponsored in its entirety by the Cardinal Health Foundation.

The winner of the ASHP Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety receives $50,000, and two finalists each receive $10,000. The awards are presented during the ASHP mid-year meeting in December. The Cardinal Health Foundation recently signed a new agreement to continue as the award's sponsor for the next three years.

Foster G. McGaw Prize

The Foster G. McGaw Prize, first awarded in 1986, recognizes healthcare organizations for their outstanding commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people they serve through community-wide collaboration. This honor inspires hospitals and health systems to implement programs that meaningfully impact their communities.

Believed to be the largest award in healthcare, the Foster G. McGaw Prize provides $100,000 to the award winner and $10,000 to each of three finalists. The program is cosponsored by the Cardinal Health Foundation, the American Hospital Association (AHA) and The Baxter International Foundation. The 2007 award was presented in May at a luncheon hosted by the Cardinal Health Foundation in Washington D.C. during the AHA's annual meeting.
